Mar 2017 - New Grass Court Season Approaching! Membership Fees Due!

The grass courts are currently being prepared for the new season, are looking in great shape, and weather permitting we will be able to start playing on them early in May.

In the meantime all membership fees are due. These are unchanged from last year. Club Chairman Mark Graham writes: "Please can you pay your fee by Sat 15 April if you wish to be included in the Wimbledon Ballot for 5 pairs of tickets. We will set a date for the ballot shortly. You can only participate if you opted in for the ballot on the LTA website as you were requested to do. Please pay fees to Debbie or Jenny, or contact Michael Ashley for bank transfer details." Further information regarding membership and payment is available on the form that can be downloaded from the membership section above.

Jul 2016 - Tournaments!

On a warm and sunny Sunday in mid July we held a doubles tournament on the grass. The winners were Tim and Jonathan (pictured), who came from match point down in the semi final to eventually defeat Mark and Benoit in the final.

May 2016 - Grass Court season starts. Davis Cup coming to Reading.

Alongside the arrival of sunny weather the grass court season will begin on Saturday 7th May, at 11am. A specially commissioned heavy roller has just been used to flatten out the bumps, so there are great prospects this year for some amazing grass court tennis! Come along! The photo was taken on 6th May.

The Davis Cup, proudly won by Andy Murray and the British team late in 2015, is on its "UK tour", and will be calling in - yes the cup itself - at Reading University on  the morning of Friday 27th May, from 10-12.30, accompanied the president of the Lawn Tennis Association, Cathie Sabin. Come to the SportsPark Sports Centre to see the trophy. And any non-members reading this should also take the opportunity to pop over to see our amazing grass courts! Looking at the sports centre from in front the courts are off to the right, beyond the new cricket pavilion and on the far side of the cricket pitch.

Apr 2016 - New Grass Court season, club AGM and Wimbledon ballot

These are not far away! For details see the message from the club chairman here

Sep 2015 - Grass Court Season Ends. Chairman`s Singles tournament completed.

Following a great summer of tennis (albeit with the usual crop of rain interruptions!) the grass court season sadly came to an end on Sat 26th Sep. To mark the day we had a packed club session in the morning. And then the final of the Chairman`s Singles tournament was played in perfect conditions - sunny skies and no wind - in the afternoon. Satesh Mistry deposed the champion from the previous two seasons, Tim Hewson, beating him 6-2 6-2. Mark Janson had won the plate competition earlier in the month.

The good news for next year is that the grass courts should be in a better (flatter!) condition, as we have secured use of a heavy roller before the season starts.

August 2014 - Club Tournaments

We held our annual club Wimbledon doubles tournament on the grass courts on Sunday the 22nd of June. 20 players took part. The round robin consisted of two groups and the two best pairs from each group qualified for the semi finals. Well done to Peter and Leila Warwick for winning the tournament. They beat Gavin Armstrong and Peem Thamraksa in a closely fought final. 16 players took part in the Chairman's singles tournament. The winner was Tim Hewson and Jasmeet Bhatia was runner up. Satesh Mistry won the plate competition.

March 2014 - Mens's Team Win League

Reading men's team finished top of their Berkshire winter league division by winning five and drawing one of their six matches. Tim Hewson, Jasmeet Bhatia, James Griffin, Mark Graham, Tom Dobson, Gavin Armstrong, Mike Bailey and Diptendra Ghosh all won matches for the team.

Summer 2013 - Tournaments

We held over 30 tournaments in 2013. Well done to Satesh Mistry and Adam Selcon for qualifying for the county finals of the Road to Wimbledon and to Peem and Jim for winning the Wimbledon doubles tournament.

May 2013 - Grass Courts Ready To Use

We have taken over the maintenance of the grass courts from the University this year and have brought in our own contractor with the necessary skills and equipiment. This new arrangement will mean that our members will be able to play on the grass courts more often. We held our first grass court club session of 2013 on Saturday the 11th of May and the courts are looking great.

Summer 2012 - Tournaments

Satesh Mistry and Felix Stansfield qualified for the county finals of the Road to Wimbledon whilst Gavin Armstrong and Tim Hewson won the Wimbledon tournament. The Chairman's singles tournament was won by Nick Adley.

Summer 2012 - RTC awarded ClubMark Accreditation

The Lawn Tennis Association Tennis Development Manager for Berkshire Jo-Anne Downing visited the club session on Saturday the 26th of May 2012 to present us with our LTA ClubMark accreditation. We had to meet various standards with regards to our club program and the management of our club in order to be awarded ClubMark. Only around a quarter of the tennis clubs in Berkshire currently have this accreditation.

Summer 2011 - Tournaments

We held 16 tournaments in 2011. Our annual "Wimbledon" doubles tournament took place on Sunday the 10th of July on the grass courts. Well done to Martine Adley and Gary Armstrong for winning the adult section and to Max Harrison and Moritz Hesse for triumphing in the junior tournament. Well done to Max for also finishing in first place on the summer Berkshire leader board for mini tennis orange (9 and under) and to Satesh Mistry for ending the season with the no1 ranking on the mini tennis green Berkshire leader board (10 and under). Well done to Danyaal Talib for remaining unbeaten in all of his matches to convincingly win our tournament to mark the end of the summer season in September. We are planning to expand the tournament program in 2012.

Summer 2011 - Road To Wimbledon 14 and Under Challenge

The Road to Wimbledon is a competition which involves 3 stages. Firstly players must win or come runner up in the club stage of the competition to qualify for the county finals. Players who win the county finals and some of the runners up with the best player ratings qualify for the national finals which are held at the All England Club. Fifteen players took part in the Reading Tennis Club Road to Wimbledon event. Well done to Joseph Dulston and Felix Stansfield for qualifying for the county finals. Felix was unlucky to lose a tight first match in the county finals. Joseph went on a great run in the county finals and eventually finished runner up which was enough to see him qualify for the national finals at Wimbledon. Joseph took on some of the best U14 players in the country at Wimbledon and managed to win one of his three round robin matches on the famous grass courts.

March 2008 - Name Change

The name of the tennis club will change back to 'Reading Tennis Club' on 1st of April 2008. This was our name prior to our move to the University in 2001 when we become the 'University of Reading Tennis Club'. The purpose of this change is to make it clearer that the club is open to everyone. The club will still continue to play on the grass courts and the floodlit hard courts at Reading University Whiteknights campus.
